Teeth Whitening

What is teeth whitening?

An effective procedure to lighten the colour of natural teeth. Teeth whitening  is the least invasive cosmetic procedure.  Many teeth can be ‘brightened’ and the smile enhanced by a course of dental whitening.

What is involved in teeth whitening?

When you come to Brundall Dental Practice for your Whitening Assessment we will advise you if there is any reason why the procedure would not work for you and of course we can always offer alternatives.

We  will take a close look at your smile and advise on further improvements that could be made as not all stains can be removed.  Stained fillings will not lighten, nor will teeth that are grey from the ‘shine-through’ of dental amalgam.   Certain minor deformities of teeth such as brown marks caused by excessive fluoride in the enamel at an early age or early marginal decay will probably not be improved and these situations can be identified and the most appropriate method of improving their aesthetics can be discussed with you.

Various methods are available and our team are trained to discuss these with you.

Impressions of your teeth are used to make models and thin ‘slips’ (0.75mm) that are virtually invisible and non invasive, are made to hold the whitening gel close to your teeth.  Different concentrations of gel are used in the surgery and at home.  There is often a detectable change within 5-6 days but different teeth do take different lengths of time to respond

Some toothpastes are very abrasive and can wear the enamel quite markedly.  Please ask for advice if you are unsure.
